AAU basketball
Open Tryouts
Sunday September 8th @ FCDS
10th Grade 4-6 pm.
Coached by the player for the players.
Apex Basketball is an AAU organization centered in Fairfield County, Connecticut. Founded in 2022, Apex Basketball aims to modernize kid's basketball. Apex teaches with young coaches who both know the sport and play the sport. Combining unique skillsets, knowledge, and enthusiasm, we do AAU the right way.
AAU basketball is usually tournament based. Over the course of a weekend, there can be 3-5 games that will not span into the week days. In contrast to home-town travel teams, AAU basketball teams are independently formed teams that can accept players from various towns. Ultimately, AAU basketball offers non-winter season basketball play, allowing more time for your children to learn from and play the sport.

In terms of Apex Basketball, each Apex team participates in somewhere between 5-7 tournaments per AAU season. While there are some consecutive weeks without tournament play, practice are always mandatory. Practices will occur twice a week from anywhere of 1-2 hours each. All teams are divided up by grade not age. Each team is tryout based, however the more players, the more potential teams.
Some of the tournaments Apex will be participating in are Zero Gravity and Vertical Hoops.
Apex Basketball is an AAU (amateur athletic union) basketball organization. Apex focuses on coaching the right way, catalyzing and reflecting each player's skills, competitiveness, and most importantly, mentality.
To achieve the best of one's self in basketball, there are many mental traits and characteristics to try and hone. However, Apex believes that in addition to the individual's responsibilities, it is the coach's responsibility too. Each player deserves undivided attention from their coach, who is there to improve each individual player as the team's success subsequently follows. Ultimately, Apex believes the best way to improve as a player is to play in improved surroundings and with improved coaching.
Every one of Apex's coaches is a current player that goes through the same shooting slumps and buzzer-beaters. As the coaches relate to the player and the players likewise, these coaches can address each individual's problems and weaknesses on a more interpersonal level. Apex Basketball is not about money or just winning, it is about strengthening the bonds between players and coaches, truly achieving great teamwork as we modernize youth basketball.
Coached By The Player, For The Players
We are Apex Basketball
Although Apex Basketball is a business, money is not the program's priority.
The main focus is creating a team full of individuals collectively striving to grow their basketball skills and win. We as a program believe money should not be a barrier preventing players from getting involved in the sport they love. The cost tends to be 850$ per season.
Apex Basketball has given over four thousand dollars worth of financial aid, which accounts for over thirty-five percent of our players.
If you are interested in our financial aid options, feel free to reach out to us.
Hi, I am Justin Wang, Apex Basketball's current owner and head coach for the 10th grade team. Like Axel, my initiative follows closely with Apex's statement -- I firmly believe that players thrive in an environment where the coach can relate to the player. So why did I take on such a role in leading Apex's future?
Basketball has been a constant in my life from the moment I was given a basketball to now, where I have the privilege of guiding the next wave of players. Given my lengthy experience with basketball, I have been in almost all aspects of the sport. As a player, I have found myself on many AAU teams in the Fairfield region, participating in school ball. As a basketball leader, I have been an interim manager for the school varsity team during an unfortunate injury, and I am currently a captain of the varsity basketball team. Finally, my experience as a coach stems from local elementary school coaching at the Boys & Girls Club and as a head coach for the 9th and 8th grade teams during the Apex 2023 and 2024 seasons, respectively.
I believe that my multi-faceted experience with basketball will guide the Fall 2024 10th-grade team to a fantastic season, and look forward to seeing your children shape the future of this program.

Hi, I am Axel Fine, the founder of Apex Basketball. As my initiative is the initiative of Apex Basketball, I am instead going to focus on letting you know a little more about myself rather than the question: why Apex?
Most importantly, I am a basketball enthusiast. From watching Knick's games every night to playing the sport since first grade, I breathe basketball. As your children continue to grow and mature in the sport of basketball, AAU basketball will become an option. Throughout my basketball career, I have played for many teams, and I never felt that any AAU organization gave me the right surroundings to reach my full potential. Often, I felt that the season was simply a cash grab or lackadaisical coaches shared no care for each of our individual development. These are some of the primary reasons I have decided to found Apex Basketball.
Basketball is a team sport from the coach to each player. The ultimate show of improving one's self is improving the people around you. The goal is to translate the ethics and importance of high school-level basketball to your kids in AAU, preparing and teaching each player for the upcoming level.
Furthermore, I am a student of the game and love nothing more than being the teacher of the game too. Over the past couple of years, I have coached and taught many kids basketball: counseling at camps, offering private lessons, and even coaching a 6th grade Darien YMCA team. I will be graduating this year and attending the University of Pennsylvania in the Wharton School of Business.
As I continue to embrace my role as the founder of Apex, it emulates my love, curiosity, and enthusiasm for the sport as I hope to pass this down to your children.
I look forward to coaching your child this upcoming spring,
I am Apex. You are Apex. We are Apex.
